Thank you for visiting the Web site of Halton Family Services. Each year, almost 3,000 individuals, couples and families come to us for help in coping with life’s problems. Our staff of professional counsellors is equipped to deal with almost any type of problem that people encounter. Our United Way funding and government funding insure that cost will not be a barrier to anyone who wants service. Please know that we are committed to making your experience at Halton Family Services as pleasant and helpful as possible. If you have special needs, do not hesitate to indicate them when you call for service.

Halton Family Services was established in 1954 by a group of Oakville citizens who felt there was a need for a professional, not-for-profit counselling service in the community to help individuals, couples and families. Beginning with one part-time social worker, and a budget of $5,000, the agency today has offices in each of Halton's four municipalities, and a regular staff of twenty three (plus group leaders). Highly trained clinical staff, all of whom have a masters of social work degree or the equivalent, provide a wide variety of counselling to more than 2,500 individuals, couples and families a year. Our Credit Counselling program helps hundreds of individuals and families each year to find solutions to their financial problems.

Halton Family Services receives the greatest proportion of its funding from the four United Ways in Halton:

  • United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton
  • United Way of Halton Hills
  • United Way of Milton
  • United Way of Oakville.

Donations from the United Ways enable us to provide help to thousands of people each year. United Way donors are able to designate part or all of their donation to the charity of their choice.

These designated donations are added to what the agency would otherwise receive. Designated donations to Halton Family Services enable us to provide counselling to even more vulnerable individual children and adults, couples and families, and will be very gratefully received.
